My name is Michael Mahoney. I am the Children’s Network Pastor at Gospel Light Community Church in Bridgeport, Connecticut. I am also a member of that church’s worship team, where I play guitar and drums. I also play guitar, drums and piano for our gospel choir, Send Judah First. I was raised an Irish Catholic. I spent almost my entire academic life in Catholic schools, from third grade all the way through college. I attended St. Basil College Preparatory School in Stamford, Ct. For college, I attended Bryant University for a year, then transferred and finished my undergraduate degree at Iona College in New Rochelle, New York. Making the move from staunch Roman Catholic to a Penticostal, evangelical Christian was not an overnight thing, by any stretch. I began to attend Gospel Light at the end of the year 2000, at the behest of my wife, Jill. Due to the persistance of her prayers, and that of a couple of strong men in Christ, I began to come to realize what I’d been missing all my life - a personal relationship with Christ. I’ve been on two mission trips to Central America, one in 2004 and one in 2005. I am hoping to return in 2009. When God removed worldly music from my life, he replaced it with the desire to make music for Him. I began playing on the worship team in 2002, and have been on it ever since. I’ve written several songs, learned a few new instruments, and continue to try and improve my craft for His glory. I have a beautiful wife Jill, my partner in ministry, and five children: Michael, Brandon, Shannon, Meghann and Cailynn.

Bring Me Home

by Michael Mahoney on Wed, 09/10/2008 - 7:46pm
This is a song that I wrote during a difficult time in my life. I was inspired to complete it after a message from my pastor…and he didn’t even know it!

An Open Letter to Mr. Obama

by Michael Mahoney on Thu, 11/06/2008 - 8:30am

Dear President-Elect Obama; First, let me congratulate you on your victory. You ran a well-planned and well thought-out campaign. While you claimed a slim margin in the popular election, you performed brilliantly in the campaign for electors. This tightly-contested election should tell you something - there is still much work to be done…

Preparation is Key

by Michael Mahoney on Mon, 10/20/2008 - 1:51pm

The Bible is full of stories about what happens when people are unprepared, and worship is no different. By the way, this is true not only for those who minister in worship, but those who worship as well…

Blog Action Day - Poverty

by Michael Mahoney on Thu, 10/16/2008 - 2:59pm

I guess I got to the party a little late, but I only found our yesterday about Blog Action Day. This is a day where bloggers from all over agree to write about one topic, and try to make a difference. This time, the topic is poverty. Poverty is (unfortunately) a relative concept…

True Worship

by Michael Mahoney on Mon, 10/13/2008 - 6:39am

I could write paragraphs and pages expounding on true worship. Or I can just show you. I was going to mark this as NSFW, because you might start crying at your desk, epecially between about 2:20 and 5:00. True worship is about release. True worship is about surrender. True worship is freedom.

Mike Tells You How to Vote

by Michael Mahoney on Thu, 10/09/2008 - 11:55am

There’s been a lot of talk lately on various Christian boards and blogs regarding the upcoming U.S. Presidential election. There are folks who are (sadly) losing their witness in a lot of ways arguing over the various candidates policies and platforms…

Billy Graham might prove me wrong...

by Michael Mahoney on Thu, 10/02/2008 - 7:47am

The other day, I kind of went on a little rant about how Christian movies are basically sub-standard. But there is a movie coming out that has promise. Billy: The Early Years hits theaters on November 10. And while the role of Billy Graham will be played by relative newcomer Armie Hammer,

Movie Review - Fireproof

by Michael Mahoney on Mon, 09/29/2008 - 7:32am
See this movie. (Is that plain enough?) I went to this film the other night, with a bare minimum of information about it, and zero expectations. Although I enjoyed Kirk Cameron’s Left Behind movies, I expected the same sub-par acting and cheezy dialog. I got that and a lot more. More here…
